Below are the details regarding the Herren news pack that we are asking you and your students to produce at your specific school during the week of 10/16. This would count towards 1 of your mandatory news packs.
Herren’s Interview
Immediately following Chris Herren’s morning presentation at your school you and your student crew should be ready to conduct his interview. Chris will go directly with you for the interview.
This should be a short interview that will be news pack style...not talk show style or at a desk.
The interview could take place in front of a Project Purple or Deyf the Issue backdrop that the school has developed or an area deemed appropriate by you and your administration.
Below are some sample questions that your students could ask Herren. Please feel free to develop your own questions though.
How do you think your presentation was received by the students?
What is the most important message you want students to take away from your presentation?
Why did you choose the color purple for you campaign?
Other than speaking engagements what else does The Herren Project Purple do?
Please try to include so of the following (You may want to work with your administration to determine the staff and students that you select to interview):
Student reaction to Herren’s presentation
Teacher and school Admin interviews about Herren’s presentation
Herren’s B-roll
You have been given permission to gather b-roll of Herren while his is speaking.
Please keep a low profile while gathering your b-roll.
Following the 29-minute video Herren will speak for 45 minutes followed by 10 minutes of Q & A (make sure your crew has left the room well before the Q & A)
Your students should only need to spend about 15-20 minutes gathering b-roll. We do not want them in there for the entire 45 minutes gathering b-roll.
You do not have permission to record audio of him speaking…video only.
You do not have permission to record during the video portion.
You do not have permission to record during the Q & A. The camera person should be out of the room at this point of the presentation. We want students to feel comfortable to ask Herren questions without the presence of a camera in the room.
Please make sure your administration is aware that there will be a camera person gathering b-roll. Let them know if it will be during the AM or PM session.
The last time we Herren was here a student camera operator was told by a staff member that they were not permitted to be gathering footage of Herren and they were sent away. We just want to make sure that does not happen again.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the news pack, interview or b-roll.
Thanks in-advance for you help.
